The history of Woodside Manor began in the late 1920’s, when Robert G. Woodside purchased the 80-acre Ford family farm on Wexford-Bayne Road. Woodside was an Attorney, the Allegheny County Sheriff, and eventually County Controller. He began his public service as a Major with the 18th Pennsylvania volunteer infantry in the Spanish-American war. He also fought in World War I, ending his military career as a Brigadier General.

The thirties were a time of change throughout Pittsburgh. Mansions were being razed to make room for new development. As Sheriff, Woodside knew what homes he could select in order to build entirely new rooms at his new estate. This ultimately would be his new home patterned after his native English manor.

Woodside Manor features the best construction and detailing, with many items purchased from stately Pittsburgh mansions of the era. Woodside’s boasts mahogany paneled rooms, beams, and hand carved furniture. As well as a hand carved oak staircase and an abundance of stained and leaded glass windows. In view as you enter Woodside’s is a magnificent wall of stained glass bearing the date 1594. The manor also has eight working fireplaces, including four that are marble and a spectacular 20 foot pink sandstone fireplace said to have been hand carved in India, brought to the United States from a home in France, and then taken from the former Wabash Train Station in Pittsburgh to the Woodside property. The Guffy Mansion, currently the site of the Pittsburgh University Cathedral of Learning and the Stevenson mansion, formerly located on the north side of the city, were two of the homes that contributed rooms to build the Woodside manor.

Since becoming Woodside’s in 2009, we have restored and remodeled the building. A spacious lounge was the most recent addition. Our nine private dining rooms provide ambiance for an intimate dinner for two or accommodations for parties of up to 66 seated guests. Strolling suppers are available for up to 400 people.

We at Woodside’s are committed to excellent food and outstanding service with the goal of making your visit with us the first of many.

Please enjoy us for lunch or dinner.

Sincerely,
